Women Leaders in Sport

Empowering women in sport and helping to create a culture which values gender equity

Leadership workshops

This workshop series is an excellent opportunity for eligible women involved in the sports industry, including sports administrators, coaches, officials, club volunteers, and those in sports media who want to enhance or refresh their leadership skills.

The program provides individuals with contemporary leadership techniques, imparts valuable insights into the sports world, and fosters connections among women from every corner of the country.

Spanning seven weeks, these sessions, address topics such as leading self, working in and with teams and courage in leadership.

Objectives

  • Enhance leadership competencies, capabilities, and self-confidence of women, thereby promoting greater diversity and inclusivity within the sporting sector.
  • Offer women in the sports industry access to professional development opportunities that might otherwise be unavailable to them.

The WLIS workshop program consists of two components: a core virtual workshop series; and an optional professional development masterclass series. Learn more.

Diversity of applicants

The ASC welcomes applicants who reflect the diversity of the Australian community and encourages women from the following backgrounds to apply:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
  • culturally and linguistically diverse
  • LGBTIQ+
  • people with a disability
  • people who live in rural and regional locations.

Eligibility criteria

  • Identify as a woman
  • Aged 18 years or over
  • Citizen or have been granted permanent residence status
  • Currently involved in a paid or volunteer capacity for either:
    • A local club or state organisation which is affiliated with a National Sporting Organisation or National Sporting organisation for people with disability (NSOD) listed in the Australian Sports Directory.
    • a national sporting organisation or national sporting organisation for people with disability listed in the Australian Sport Directory
    • the Australian Olympic Committee
    • Commonwealth Games Australia
    • the National Institute Network
    • a media organisation as a sport journalist/writer or
    • a university, as a student undertaking a sports-related degree (ie- sport management or sports journalism)
  • Must not have any outstanding WLIS acquittal and/or reporting requirements to the ASC
  • Not be a current employee of the ASC
  • The organisation you are currently involved with is not named in the National Redress Scheme for Institutional Child Sexual Abuse on its list of Institutions that have not joined or signified their intent to join the Scheme.
