The Learning Centre delivers centralised world class content to build the learning and development capability of the sector and allows sports a platform to deliver their own content.

This innovative approach to bringing learning together has received global recognition with a 2022 Brandon Hall Group HCM Excellence Award.

The ASC, in partnership with Kineo, was awarded a bronze medal in the Best Advance in Learning Technology Implementation category for the learning solution.

The Learning Centre is also a finalist in the Best Capability Building Program category at the Australian Institute of Training and Development Excellence Awards, with winners announced in October.

The Learning Centre hosts sector wide e-learning content produced by the ASC that helps volunteers and paid staff with their diverse roles and responsibilities.

Free resources including the Community Coaching Essentials Skills course, the Start Line Director Education course and the Community Officiating General Principles course have all been incredibly popular since being launched.

The offerings will be expanded next week with a new Director Education module added.

The Defence, Risk Education for Directors focuses on board members harnessing risk to protect their organisation and builds on the concepts delivered in the Start Line module.

ASC Deputy General Manager, Industry Capability, Kate Corkery said the platform has gone from strength to strength over the past 12 months.

“The Learning Centre is a key pillar of how the ASC is supporting the sector by making learning and education easier for those involved,” she said.

“This innovative approach and investment the ASC has made has led to recognition for the platform for how we centralise content in a convenient and cohesive online environment.”

“As more sports come on board, we’ll continue to further engage the 3 million volunteers in Australia with modern and easy to access education which will allow them to continue to provide great experiences for people engaged in community sport.”

A number of national sporting organisations (NSOs) including athletics, swimming, squash and netball have successfully joined the Learning Centre as subtenants with sport specific learning content available.

Athletics Australia is one NSO seeing the benefits of collaborating with the ASC and other sports.

“Athletics provides opportunities for fundamental movement and physical literacy skill development and so our education content can be useful and relevant for other sports and their coaches,” Athletics Australia, General Manager, Growth and Development Adam Bishop said.

“We also wanted to create a seamless experience for our learners across online and face to face learning. The more sports that join the Learning Centre, the greater the opportunity to collaborate across the sector, so we all benefit,” he added.
