Alison Zell of the GWS Giants accepts the inaugural ASC Media Awards trophy for best coverage of sport by a club or organisation at the MCG in March, 2023.

Last year the ASC introduced a new award for ‘best coverage of sport by a club or organisation’ which celebrates the role that professional and non-professional organisations of all sizes play in engaging with members and fans through their own media channels.

This can be via website articles, podcasts or video, and the use of social media channels.

AFL club the GIANTS were the first winner of the new category, for their work connecting with fans of their AFL, AFLW and Netball teams with engaging and innovative content.

Other finalists included Bowls Australia, Snow and the Paramatta Eels.

ASC CEO Kieren Perkins, OAM, said the category reflected the unique role clubs and organisations played in connecting with the public.

“All sports work hard to promote their athletes, clubs and events and this in turn encourages more Australians to be involved in sport at all levels,” he said.

“The direct contact clubs and organisations have with their members and fans is one of the most important relationships in sport. It can be one of the best ways to showcase the value and benefits of sport to the public.

“With less than two weeks until entries close, I encourage all NSOs and NSODs to showcase their sport via this category.

Entries are now being accepted in 12 categories for the ASC Media Awards, with nominations closing on 1 November, 2023.
