Major milestone for MyGolf

22 November 2021

Golf Australia’s MyGolf program has reached 50,000 participants through Sporting Schools since its inception in 2015.

In the 2020-21 financial year, more than 550 programs were delivered nationally, despite lockdowns across various states impacting program availability.

Over the past year, the flexible and socially distanced nature of the MyGolf program has been an excellent choice for schools. The goal now is to ensure the participants of the program have a place to go to keep their swing going.

Southern Cross Catholic College in Townsville, Queensland, is one school keen to see students continue their progression in the sport and transition to local golf clubs.

The school took part in four MyGolf Sporting Schools programs, all delivered by local PGA professionals.

Each program was designed to ensure participants meet the Australian Health and Physical Education (HPE) curriculum learning outcomes and align with Sport Australia’s Physical Literacy Framework.

‘I originally chose MyGolf as I was looking for a different sport to appeal to students who do not like team sports,’ said health and physical education teacher and School Ambassador, Katrina Bennett.

‘We continued to book MyGolf as the deliverers are amazing and the students love when it’s their turn to try golf,’ she said.

Katrina actively promoted the local MyGolf programs at nearby golf clubs to parents through the school’s social media and online communication portals.

‘It is important that students and parents are aware of the pathway to the local MyGolf program. Our school has had several students go to the local MyGolf program and they were more confident about doing it because they had participated in MyGolf through Sporting Schools,’ Katrina noted.

Katrina has now helped around 20 students from Southern Cross Catholic College transition into a golf club program within the local community.

She was also rewarded through the MyGolf School Ambassador incentive program, for the important role she has played in supporting children to find a club in their area.
