The Local Sporting Champions kicking it with the world’s best

29 July 2023

For several Matildas their dream of playing for Australia received an early boost from the ASC’s Local Sporting Champions (LSC) program.

From young sporting stars to representing their country at the highest level, our mighty Matildas and former LSC grant recipients are proof dreams come true.

The hard work, time and money the players and their families have invested to get them from juniors to the Aussie team is no small feat.

The ASC is proud to have assisted seven of our 2023 World Cup Matildas as they worked their way to the top of Australian football through the LSC grant program.

World Cup debutants Courtney Nevin, Cortnee Vine, Alex Chidiac, Teagan Micah and Clare Hunt received LSC funding to attend a state, national or international tournament between 2010 and 2014.

World Cup veteran’s Caitlin Foord and Ellie Carpenter also rose to success with assistance from the LSC program throughout their junior careers.

The LSC program provides financial assistance for coaches, officials and competitors aged 12 to 18 years to participate in state, national or international championships. Successful applicants receive between $500 and $750 toward the cost of attending their championships.

The ASC wishes the Matildas all the best for the remainder of their 2023 World Cup campaign.
