AIS European Training Centre triples accommodation capacity ahead of Paris 2024 and Milan Cortina 2026

07 June 2023

The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) European Training Centre (ETC) in Italy has officially opened Sunset Hotel, providing an additional forty-eight rooms.

Situated an hour from Milan in the Province of Varese, the ETC provides a ‘home away from home’ and competitive advantage for athletes training or competing in Europe.

European Training Centre Lead Fiona de Jong says that ETC’s role is as critical as ever as Australian athletes prepare for two consecutive European Summer and Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris 2024 and Milan Cortina 2026.

“The ETC strives to provide the ultimate high-performance home for Australian Sport and this increase in capacity allows us to support more of our athletes and their support staff ahead of the next big three years of European based competition,” said Ms de Jong.

The increased capacity comes in time for a busy summer season with Rowing Australia teams arriving this week and Athletics Australia athletes preparing for the World Para Athletics Championships in Paris and the World Athletics Championships in Budapest. Canoe, cycling and rugby 7s are just some of the other sports set to arrive over the summer.

The centre provides access to a range of facilities and services including an onsite strength and conditioning gym, recovery pools, a sports science laboratory, a variety of training facilities, physical therapy and medical support, administration support and more.

Situated next to the ETC, Sunset Hotel offers the same access to ETC facilities and will remain open until November, opening again between March and June 2024. The rooms accommodate single, twin, and triple bookings and include two twin accessible rooms.
