Australian Sports Commission welcomes new Commissioners

The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) welcomes the Australian Government's appointment of four new Commissioners to its Board: Lydia Williams OLY, Andrew Purchas OAM, Dr Chloe Flutter, and Selwyn Button.

These appointments will support the ASC’s ongoing commitment to strong governance and the advancement of Australian sport at all levels.

The new Commissioners bring a wealth of experience and knowledge:

  • Lydia Williams OLY: Former Matildas goalkeeper and celebrated advocate for women in sport and Indigenous representation.
  • Andrew Purchas OAM: Accomplished sports administrator with extensive expertise in technology and governance and is the co-founder of Pride in Sport.
  • Dr Chloe Flutter: Senior leader across the public and private sectors with deep expertise in organisational strategy and policy. A former AIS scholarship holder as part of the swimming program.
  • Selwyn Button: Prominent leader in Indigenous education and community engagement, bringing valuable insights into equity and inclusion in sport. Currently a Productivity Commissioner.

In addition, the ASC is delighted to confirm the reappointment of Lynne Anderson as a Commissioner for a further three-year term. The Board also welcomes the appointment of current Commissioner Nick Green OAM as Deputy Chair.

The ASC also extends its heartfelt thanks to outgoing Commissioners Andrew Ireland, Kurt Fearnley AO PLY, and Amanda Laing for their invaluable contributions over the last six years. Their expertise and dedication have greatly influenced the ASC’s mission to build a stronger, safer and more inclusive sporting landscape.

ASC Chair Kate Jenkins AO expressed her enthusiasm about the new appointments as well as her gratitude for the service of the outgoing Commissioners.

“The ASC is thrilled to welcome Lydia, Andrew, Chloe, and Selwyn to the Board. Their diverse expertise and passion for sport will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Australian sport,” Ms. Jenkins said.

“I would also like to acknowledge the exceptional contributions of outgoing Commissioners Andrew Ireland, Kurt Fearnley AO PLY, and Amanda Laing, who have provided distinguished service and left a lasting legacy for the ASC and Australian sport.”

Ms. Jenkins also expressed her support for Nick Green’s appointment as Deputy Chair. “Nick’s leadership, both on and off the water, has been instrumental to the Australian sport sector, and I am excited to collaborate more closely with him in this role,” she said.

The ASC looks forward to working with its refreshed Board to continue fostering the development of sport in Australia, supporting athletes, and inspiring participation across all communities.
