Sporting Schools is pleased to announce a new national sporting organisation (NSO) partner in the targeted secondary school program. From Term 1 2021, Australian Sailing will offer their OutThere Sailing program to year 7 and 8 secondary school students.
The targeted, secondary school program aims to:
- tackle the decline in sport participation that occurs during adolescence
- increase physical activity in areas with large cohorts of inactive students
- provide access to tailored resources for schools where there is evidence of disadvantage.
Federico Guzzo, Education & Training Manager at Australian Sailing explained that OutThere Sailing is aimed at teenagers looking to have fun on a sailing boat, powerboat, windsurfer and/or stand-up paddle board (SUP).
“I am delighted to add the OutThere Sailing program to our existing Sporting Schools offerings. Australian Sailing is now providing sailing courses to both primary and secondary school students who want to experience sailing in an exciting and social environment,” Federico said.
“Last year this pilot program registered a huge success among sailing clubs with a total of more than 3,500 participants taking part across Australia.”
Federico said he looks forward to seeing secondary school students developing their sailing skills while having fun with friends on the water.
