Welcoming Marcus Rosas: NT Cricket Stalwart joins Sports Volunteer Coalition

The Sports Volunteer Coalition is thrilled to welcome Marcus Rosas, a dedicated leader in Northern Territory (NT) cricket, as its newest member.

Marcus has been a fixture in NT cricket for over 15 years and his dedication has not only earned him an impressive list of accolades but also left an indelible mark on communities across the NT. As he joins the Coalition in 2024, Marcus looks forward to harnessing his expertise and passion to further the mission of supporting volunteers in sports.

"I am an Indigenous person who has been involved with sport for the whole of my life. I see myself bringing information from this perspective and from a grass roots level that may benefit the Coalition around policies and procedures," Marcus said.

Calling stumps on his playing days, Marcus committed to remaining involved in the game. His desire to create safe, welcoming, and inclusive environments, both on and off the field, was a driving force behind his love for umpiring. His recent achievement of the Level 1 Umpires Accreditation further underscores his dedication, making him one of the few accredited Indigenous cricket umpires in Australia.

His impact extends beyond officiating with much of his work focused on fostering participation and unity, including leading the success of the Imparja Cup and organising Community Cricket Carnivals in remote NT regions, from Katherine to the Tiwi Islands.  In 2021, Marcus was rightfully honoured with the Community Cricket Official of the Year award by Cricket Australia, a testament to his exemplary contributions.

Currently umpiring in the Katherine Districts Cricket Competition, Marcus continues to inspire and lead by example. His eagerness to learn and improve as an umpire reflects his dedication to upholding the values of sportsmanship and inclusivity. Senior Project Manager at the Australian Sports Commission, Matt Calf is excited at the opportunity to expand the Coalition and bolster their ranks with an individual of Marcus’ expertise and experience.

“The Sport Volunteer Coalition is delighted to welcome Marcus Rosas as one of our latest changemakers who’ll work to advocate and drive positive change in sport volunteering,” Matt said.

“As the first member of the Coalition from the Northern Territory, and the first indigenous member, Marcus will bring a unique voice and expertise to the Coalition.

With the Sport Volunteer Coalition entering our third year, Marcus will play a key role in ensuring every Territorian can see the benefits in volunteering in sport in a way that suits them.”

Please join us in welcoming Marcus Rosas to the Coalition, where his vision and commitment will undoubtedly make a lasting impact.
