Evolved Sport Governance Principles

Governance is the essential overarching systems and processes put in place to direct, manage and control an organisation in order to ensure that its purpose is clear, that legal and financial needs are met, and that a positive culture is modelled from the top.

Sport is a key element of a cohesive and thriving national community. Sporting organisations play a critical role in achieving outcomes in areas such as education, health, leadership development and fair play, and in delivering experiences that link heart, mind and body, and connect individuals to inspire communities.

In order to achieve their maximum potential for their participants and communities, sporting organisations need a good governance system. While sporting organisations do not succeed on good governance alone, poor governance almost certainly guarantees failure.
